Regions request meeting with govt after DEF approval -update

Rome, April 10 - Italy's regional governments have
requested a meeting with Premier Matteo Renzi's central
administration to discuss policy after the executive approves
its economic blueprint - the economic and financial document
The talks were requested in a letter sent by Piedmont
Governor Sergio Chiamparino, the head of Italy's conference of
regions, to Renzi and Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan.
Renzi's cabinet is set to meet at 20:00 on Friday to
approve the blueprint, which needs to be sent to European
Commission by the middle of the month.
The document features the government's economic forecasts
and outlines its economic and budget plans.
"Discussions at the right time can, among other things,
make careful assessment (of the DEF) possible so that it can be
applied with the maximum level of agreement," Chiamparino wrote.
Renzi met representatives of Italy's city and town
councils earlier this week and reportedly reassured them that
they will not suffer more spending cuts after a series of big
budget reductions in recent years.
