Milan, April 10 - Napoli Chairman Aurelio De
Laurentiis said Friday that he has talked to other club bosses
about the idea he mooted of playing the first weekend of Serie A
fixtures abroad to help boost Italian soccer's international
appeal.
"We are talking about it," De Laurentiis, who has
suggested playing games in 10 different cities around the world,
told reporters after a meeting of the League of Serie A clubs.
"More time is needed. We have to discuss it".
Other club executives said there was little substance
behind the idea.
The president of the league of Serie A clubs, Maurizio
Beretta, described the notion as "complicated".
Premier League officials mooted the idea of staging an
extra '39th' set of fixtures of the English top flight abroad
several years ago.
But the idea was meet with astonishment from many fans and
not followed up on.
American football's flagship National Football League
stages games in London every season.
