Rome, May 12 - Premier Matteo Renzi said Tuesday
that his government will find a solution to a problem created by
a court ruling against a freeze on increases in some higher
pensions imposed by a previous government without breaching the
EU's budget rules.
"The overall budget figures won't change. We'll stay
within the EU rules," he told Rep TV referring to the
Constitutional Court's ruling against a 2011 suspension of
index-linked increases in pensions of 1,450 euros a month gross
or above.
"We'll study a solution that enables us to be credible at
the European level.
"Over the next few days we'll study the documents. We
learned about the sentence on April 30 from the news agencies.
"Now we'll take the time we need to avoid making
mistakes".
Renzi added that the Constitutional Court ruling does not
order the government to reimburse all the money to people whose
pensions were frozen "tomorrow morning".
