Runoff numbers 'like stones' says Speranza (2)

(see related)Rome, June 20 - MP Roberto Speranza,
leader of a leftwing dissenting minority within Premier Matteo
Renzi's Democratic Party (PD), said Monday "the runoff numbers
are like stones - difficult to minimize them".
"The (overall) result is objectively not a good one for the
PD and sends a clear political signal to government, Renzi, and
the action of the PD," Speranza said.
"This is a serious problem - I don't think it can be taken
lightly... a sector of society perceives a contradiction between
the PD narrative and daily life".
Speranza also said a de facto alliance with
former Berlusconi aide Denis Verdini - blamed for dragging the
PD down in some mayoral contests in the first round of voting
last Sunday - has been "a colossal error".
"It's about time the PD executive said something clear and
definitive on Verdini," Speranza said.
Renzi has denied the PD has entered into an alliance with
Verdini, whose ALA - a splinter from ex-premier Silvio
Berlusconi's opposition, centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party -
has provided the swing votes on several government reforms,
including its civil unions law.
