Rome, October 11 - Anti-establishment 5-Star
Movement (M5S) chief Beppe Grillo on Tuesday accused the
government of inflating economic data to buy voter consensus
ahead of a December 4 referendum on Premier Matteo Renzi's
reforms.
"(Renzi) has mandated (Economy Minister Pier Carlo) Padoan
to inflate the forecasts so 2017 growth data swells by 0.4%, and
government magically finds money for the usual handouts and the
usual bonuses with which it tries desperately to buy consensus,"
Grillo wrote on his blog.
"The government is spouting bollocks upon bollocks, saying
Italy will grow but that's not true," the
comedian-turned-politician continued in his signature vitriolic
style.
The M5S is Italy's second-largest party after Renzi's
center-left Democratic Party (PD).
