Renzi says PD 'acted responsibly'

Rome, December 12 - Matteo Renzi told a meeting of
the executive of his Democratic Party (PD) Monday that "we have
taken on the task of being responsible, after getting a refusal
from other parties".
"The procedures must clear, strong and self-evident," the
resigning premier and PD chief said.
"I believe the day we all wish (premier-designate) Paolo
Gentiloni well is a beautiful day".
"Voters nixed our design," he added in reference to a
December 4 referendum in which close to 60% of voters turned
down his constitutional reform law.
"Now we must reflect - I would like to do so in the broadest
possible way, but without giving in to caricatures".
The party must bring forward its congress and primaries "in
the knowledge that a national election is imminent", Renzi
"It is obvious that we're heading toward a national election
in the coming months, as others have called for more than we
have in recent days," said the PD chief, who resigned as premier
last week.
The PD chief added he is "determined to demand respect for
the community".
"I've never escaped my responsibilities," Renzi said.
"The party must debate everything, including how to be
together, the loyalty it must be assured, its choice of ruling
class, and its choice of economic and social policies".
The executive is expected to vote on Renzi's proposal of
bringing forward the next party congress.
